Munich Day Six to Obersalzberg, Day Seven to Berlin

Munchen Tag Sechs nach Obersalzberg, Seben nach Berlin

Hello Everyone, wie gehts? Tue 4/13/2010 We have been so busy here. We met up with my friend Carmilla from the UK again and we drove down to the Berchtesgaden Salzwerks (Salt mines) and it was a great tour. You start out on a little train and go down into the earth, and then you stop and use the slides to go further down....like when you were a kid and loved to use the slide, except this one was made for grown-ups! If you have ever watched "The Winds of War" mini-series you would know. We got great pictures that they took as we were going down the slide. It was fascinating to use a type of barge to go over the brine lakes underground, the only way I can describe it is that the water looks and moves like mercury. Sort of sci-fi....... When we got out the sun was shining so we took up the mountain and drove up the berg (mountain and drove by what would have been the Berghof and headed for a Gasthaus for lunch over looking Berchtesgaden. It was sooooooooo beautiful there with the sun shining, snow on the mountain tops, and just serenely quiet. Truely one of the most beautiful places in the world. Sehr schon!!!!!!!!

We got back and started to pack, and headed down to Josef and Gabrielle's to settle up the final bill. Josef invited us in while Gabrielle was out. He was making dinner and asked if we had eaten.....we had earlier but you do not refuse here in Germany unless you have a very, very good reason. A different pasta this evening and it was fantastic......das essen war gesmacked! It was so tasty and beautiful, we felt like we were intruding but we had such a great time with Josef and Gabrielle, good company and great conversation. We got back in around 12pm and packed quickly, showered, and got into bed. We have a flight to catch tomorrow....nicht zu...est ist heute (not so, it is today).

Here is a picture of the church just down the path behind the Hubman's. This church plays beautiful bells all throughout the day at different times. And on Saturday they ring in the new week. I have heard many bells but these are really beautiful, and they last for some time.

Wed, 4/14/2010 we got up at 07:30 and finished getting everything into the suitcases.....why is it that the stuff you originally got in now doesn't seem to fit? It was finally raining which we had avoided most of the week. We dropped off the keys, Josef and Gabrielle warned us not to go through town but to drive around it because there was a lot of construction there.......yes, we were caught in it the other day. We made it to the airport on time.... The Munich airport is very new and modern, but somewhat confusing at the same time. We turned in the rental car and found our way to the Air Berlin terminal. Check-in and bag check went well, as well as security. Each gate has its own security gate, so there is no big traffic jam like at Atlanta Hartsfield.
We had a nice flight on a 737 into Berlin, about 1 hour flight time, and we took a taxi to our apartment. Unpack, go and buy some groceries, and then out to eat. We went to a nice Swiss restaurant (Nola) that is right around the corner from our apartment, and actually is situated inside a park. Very good food. After dinner back for a shower and to bed early tonight....
